When Jennifer Capriati vanished from the tour in 2004, driving into the Saddlebrook sunset in her Fila Ferrari, lots of fans were let down. Not this one. The Racqonteur just never got all the J-Cap hype; didn't feel the comeback magic, you know? And then when she waltzed off with a win over Serena in the 04 US Open semis courtesy of umpire Mariana Alves's pair of exceptionally bad line calls, I was done with America's sweetheart for good. That said, it was quite moving to hear Capriati weigh in on the struggles of life in injury-mandated limbo in this recent well-crafted profile. Doesn't sound like she's going to be competing again any time soon. And while I might not exactly miss her, it's impossible not to sympathize with her.
